Maybe some of you didn’t realize this matter but in case you don’t know how to do it, please read all the facts below.

Four things we can do at individual level:

1. Replace all your old inefficient light bulbs with energy saving florescent ones. This will help you reduce your electricity bills considerably. More money in the pocket leaves us better off any day!

2. You might never notice but often you leave your computer turned on when you’ve to leave the chair for a few minutes while you turn up after a few hours and find it still turned on.

Turn it off even if you are not using it for 5 minutes. Wait, are you too busy to wait for it to boot up again? Go get a glass of water while it starts up. This will detox your body and keep allergies away.

3. Don’t keep the dishes in a pool of water before putting them into the dishwasher. This leads to unnecessary usage of water. Also, if you’ve asthma or allergies, the chlorine in the urban water pipelines is going to make it worse!

4. Don’t use plastic bottles for storing or drinking water. Not only plastic is ecologically hazardous, it leaves a harmful chemical into the water over time which enters your body and affects your nervous system, thus causing asthma problems among other serious diseases.

So what do you think?

Protecting our environment is no obligation for anyone at all. But if we take steps to live with the nature, instead of living on it, we will be the one who’d loose, if anything at all.

Exploiting the nature above a certain level will lead to a situation where our coming generations would struggle to find any non-renewable source of energy left to use for the technology addicted world, which will be crippled without nature’s assistance.

Taking steps towards ecological living is a positive step towards sustainable development. Many business organizations are spending large sums of money on research to develop their products and services in line with the established ecological protocols.

The aim of these researches is more than being eco-friendly. These days, even the customer is aware of impacts of polluting the environment.

A company with a tag of being eco-friendly gains reputations and a competitive advantage over its peers within and outside the industry as well. Governments also tend to involve lesser in workings of such organizations.

Apart from this, investing in exploitation of renewable resources of energy is the need of the hour. Studies have reported that there’s a tremendous scope in existing renewable resources, if harvested properly and timely.

When we talk about living eco friendly, we generally refer to ecological homes and neighborhood. Not much talk or interest is dedicated to making office environment green.

These days, the competition is so stiff that most people tend to spend more time at work than at homes. If we learn to create a green office environment, we might as well end up contributing a lot more to our mother nature.

Computer Energy Efficiency:
Computers are lifeline of every business establishment. One should follow protocols issued for least energy usage on computers, like use screensavers and put the computer on auto sleep mode when not in use.

Old computers must be donated for re-use instead of thrashing them away.

Air Quality:
For cleaner air and lesser usage of air conditioners, make proper arrangements for ventilation of air throughout the office at crucial points.

Lights:
Do not waste electricity on lights just because its not your liability to pay the bills. At the end of the day, we’ve to work towards a phase of sustainable development where we can provide the same level of facilities to our coming generations.

Reuse and Recycle:
Put recycling bins at a number of places so that office waste like paper is available for reuse into much better purposes than just wasting away.
